Name: Tom Biggs
Age: 22
Club: Leeds Tykes
Position: Winger
Q: How do you stay fit and healthy?
A: With the help of my conditioner (Steve Carter) and nutritionist (Adam Carey). They advise me on what foods I need to be eating and how much extra conditioning I need to do.
Q: As a young player, what should you concentrate on most tackling or passing? A: All areas of your game are important and you should always be looking to improve in every area. The world’s best players are always looking to improve as nobody is perfect.
Q: Which position is the most important on the field? A: Rugby is a team game and all players must work together to work well.
Q: Who is the best player you have ever played with or against? A: Jason Robinson. His ability to change direction without losing speed is nearly impossible to defend against.
Q: If you could play any other positions, what would it be?
A: I would love to play at fly-half. It would be great to be in control of the game and to put others in to space.
Q: How do prepare for a big game?
A: I am quite quiet before a game and like to stay relaxed. I listen to music and try to think about various situations that may occur during the game.
Q: What is your greatest rugby achievement?
A: Winning the Powergen Cup in 2005. It was a fantastic day out for players and fans, and it was a great feeling to lift the trophy at Twickenham.
Q: If you hadn’t become a professional rugby player. What would you have been?
A: I have just completed a Business Studies degree at Leeds Metropolitan University so I would have looked to have done something with that. It is always important to have something to fall back on as playing rugby is such a short career.
Q: What is your greatest achievement? A: I was very pleased to receive my degree as I carried out the course whilst playing rugby professionally. It was a lot of hard work but it was a fantastic feeling when I graduated.
Q: What are your unfulfilled ambitions? A: I would like to travel across the world and see all the sites. I have never had the opportunity to do it as yet. I really want to win at least another major trophy with Leeds Tykes, and being from Hull I would love to play at the KC stadium.
Q: You’ve been at Leeds Tykes for a few years now. How do you rate the current squad?
A: The current squad is a completely new squad this year with a number of players leaving and a number of new ones coming in. The players that have come in have been fantastic and we have been working really hard together. We all want to achieve the same goal, which is getting back in to the Premiership.
Q: What do you like the most about being a rugby player? And what do you dislike?
A: I enjoy seeing friends everyday and doing something that I love as a job. I must admit though, the one thing I do dislike is having to train outdoors when it is freezing cold and wet.
