Name: Tom Mercey
Nickname: ‘Merce’
Age: 20
Club: Saracens
Position: Prop

Q: How do you stay fit and healthy?
A: Our strength and conditioning guys are pretty good at keeping us in shape. Apart from that, I try to eat a healthy diet and also look to get lots of sleep!

Q: Who is the best player you have ever played with or against?
A: It has to be Cobus Visagie, my Saracens team mate

Q: If you could play any other positions, what would it be?
A: I wouldn’t really – I like mixing it in the front row!

Q: How do prepare for a big game?
A: I just keep myself to myself and try to focus on my mental preparations and what I need to do during the game

Q:  What is your greatest rugby achievement?
A:  Being part of the winning Churchill Cup side with England last summer

Q: If you hadn’t become a professional rugby player. What would you have been?
A: Tough one that – a rugby player is all I even wanted to be. Probably I’d have worked in the City somewhere

Q: What is your greatest achievement?
A: Getting in the England Saxons squad

Q: What do you like the most about being a rugby player?
A: The camaraderie is the main thing. Sharing those experiences as a team – also getting paid to play the game you love if pretty good!

Q: What activities do you enjoy in your spare time?
A: I’m studying for a degree at the minute so that takes up a lot of my time. But I also enjoy fishing and am a fan of scuba diving.

Q: Have you got any match day superstitions or routines?
A: No really – just trying to win the game!
